England were thrashed by 229 runs by South Africa in the 20th match of the ICC Cricket World Cup 202324 on Saturday, October 21, 2023. It was England's heaviest ODI defeat, and the third-largest in World Cup history.
South Africa won the toss and elected to bat first, posting a mammoth 342-6 from their 50 overs. Quinton de Kock (124) and Rilee Rossouw (109) scored centuries for the Proteas, while Aiden Markram (73) also made a significant contribution.
In reply, England were bowled out for just 113 in 29.4 overs. They were never in the chase, losing wickets at regular intervals. Jos Buttler (29) and Liam Livingstone (22) were the only England batsmen to reach double figures.
