Boston College Maintains Ranking Despite Methodology Change
University Improves Qualitative Score but Slips in Rankings
Boston College has maintained its ranking of 36th in the 2023 survey of national universities released by U.S. News & World Report. However, the university has seen a slight drop in its overall ranking due to a change in methodology that favors public institutions.
According to the report, Boston College improved its qualitative score by four points over last year. However, the university's overall ranking fell from 27th to 36th. This is largely due to a change in the methodology that now weights the graduation and retention rate of first-year students more heavily.
Despite the drop in the overall ranking, Boston College remains a top-tier institution. The university is ranked 618th in the Best Global Universities survey, which ranks schools according to their performance across a range of indicators, including research, teaching, and international outreach.
